    Differences between hot and cold light source


    Cold light source: light source which is excited by chemical energy, electrical energy or bio-energy(firebuy, neon light LED and so on), cold light source features excellent optical and shining characteristics, if and object radiates with its temperature not getting higher than the environmental temperature.then it can be defined t obe cold light source.
     
    Strictly speaking, LED is emtting light by electroluminescence with heat generated in the process, though less than that of incandescent lamp, the LED has a electricity-to-light transformation rate of about 30%, the interior quantum efficiency of around 70% (near to the oreticval maximum value), and external quantum efficency around 50% (just experimental data, not the precise value)
     
    Hot light source: lght source which is exited by thermal energy, for example, the incandescent lamp radiate from themal luminescence under temperature of 3000-4000K, the luminous efficiency of incandescent lamp is rather low with 80%-90% of the energy transformed ot thermal power and only around 10% convertedto potical power, the high temperature of the exterior shell of the light source, can’t be relied to distinguish a hot light source from cold light source, but can only be a proof of poor heat dispersion design.
     
    The cold light source substitutes the heat light source judging from the current developing tendency of white light LEDs, hense, LED can be regarded as a kind of cold light source.
     
    Hot light source and cold light source can’t merely be separated from the definitions, in fact, cold light source is not that doesn’t generate heat when emitting light, but that doesn’t radiate in the way of converting thermal energy into optical energy, the incandescent lamp is a typical example of converting electronical power into themal energy and then into luminous efficency, with a result of high heat exhaust and low luminous efficency. It shouldn’t be far ahead when the cold light source substitutes the heat light source judging from the current developing tendency of white light LEDs, hence, LED can be regarded as a kind of cold light source.
